Statement on Safeguarding

Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable Adults.

The Church of England takes seriously the Safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults and have updated their Safeguarding Policy. The Diocese of Durham have adopted this policy, and so at recent annual meetings of the Parochial Church Councils of both the parish churches of Belmont & Pittington, we also agreed to adopt the policy.

Because of this, church members who are actively involved in working alongside children and vulnerable adults are required to undergo varying levels of safeguarding training and necessary checks.

The policy requires that Parish Safeguarding Officers (PSO) are appointed. At St Mary Magdalene, Belmont these are Carol Bloomfield (for children 07803361819) and Judith Holroyd (for vulnerable adults 0191 386 1104) and in St Laurence, Pittington, Dave Arnott is the PSO for both categories.

Copies of the parish policies and the larger national document as well as contact details for the PSO’s are available in church and on the parish websites.
